Our Pastor
The Holy Bible
&
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures
The Early Christian Church didn’t have ordained pastors the way many churches do today. People would come together for fellowship and to share inspiration from the Scriptures.
That’s actually how Jesus preached when he went to his hometown synagogue in Nazareth. First he read from the Scriptures. Then he explained what it meant.
This is the model in a Christian Science church. We don’t have an ordained clergy. Our services are conducted by lay readers.
As for our Pastor, we take a unique approach. Two books, the Bible itself, along with the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, are our pastor.
That means there’s no personal preaching. The “Sermon” you’ll hear on Sunday and the Bible lesson on Wednesday evening, are readings on a particular topic from the Bible and then explanatory passages from Science and Health.
If you’re looking for a preacher to get emotionally wound up in a fervor, sorry, but you won’t find that here. We love singing hymns and there’s always a time for prayer. But the sermon is an opportunity to ponder quietly the message of the Bible and let it sink down deep into your heart.
